Today I wanted to share a video I created for Guitar Alliance a few months back. It focuses on some of the different ways that you can make an income by playing guitar. It’s a little different than my usual videos, but it’s still packed with a ton of cool info.
Here is my question today. If you are a guitarist, or play a different instrument, how can you personally use these strategies to start making some side income? What are some other strategies to make money as a musician?
Let’s talk in the comments below.

Another nice video Greg, I really think more musicians could build a simple affiliate site to boost the band fund.
I’ve also been working on a few posts that talk about easier ways to increase income.
Forget about hardcore seo and all that. Just talk about cool new products and mention the product name in the title of the blog post….the traffic and sales will come.
For me it’s about shifting the mindset from small websites to the idea of creating a giant authority site that you can post to each day.
My google analytics shows my site ranking for some crazy little search terms that I could never have dreamed up.

This is a great video, it’s very helpful indeed.
I don’t suppose you’d know if there’s an equivalent gig masters website over here in the UK? Is it worthwhile someone from Scotland signing up to an American website such as this?
Many thanks,
Rich

Greg, you beat me to it! I just posted my article on affiliate marketing for musicians on my site.
I love the eTabs idea. I really want to play with that once my band actually gets recordings out.

Very good, Greg! Always love what you have to put out. \m/
@ Chris – I also agree with the “giant authority site” format. Once my Oath of the Indie Musician series is complete, I want to rebuild Network or Die around The Oath, and transform it into an authority on business development for the indiepreneur!
@ Seth – I read your affiliate article,as well. Very cool. I’ve touched upon the basics of musician affiliates in the past. I’m also sittin on a domain and idea called MusiciansAffiliate! I’m so strapped I can’t line it out, but if any of y’all would like to discuss the possibilities, hit me up.
@ Rich – have you looked into http://www.alivenetwork.com/

Hi Greg – good stuff.
A good thing about being an Amazon affiliate is that when people click on your product links and then keep clicking around Amazon and buy something else, you still get commission. You wouldn’t believe the weird things people have bought from clicking on books I advertise on my personal development blog (soy milk, tampons).
A bad thing about Amazon is they don’t ship interesting electronic things like cameras and microphones to here in Australia – and they only pay Australians with gift certificates, not cash – and then of course you can’t use the certificates for most of the things you actually want (microphones, cameras etc). Oh well!
Cheers – Robin
